Position: Learning Kitchen Manager

Reports to: Director of Development & Communications

Hours of work: Monday – Friday, with some evening/weekend requirements

Classification: Full time

Overall Responsibilities:

The Learning Kitchen Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Greener Village Learning Kitchen and for the staff and volunteers working in the kitchen.

Safety & Standards

  • Ensure all staff, volunteers and class participants are fully aware of and following and all Health and Safety policies and procedures regarding the safe use of kitchen equipment, kitchen cleaning procedures and safe food handling procedures. Responsible for documenting and reporting incidents, accidence in a timely manner, keeping cold storage and maintenance logs and submitting monthly checklists to the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Maintain Class 5 Kitchen License and ensure all Kitchen activities and rentals are in compliance, and that all food prepared in the kitchen follows applicable Provincial, Federal and/or Municipal guidelines

Day to Day

  • Works with Director to create, schedule and evaluate a rotation of classes/workshops targeted to different demographics/needs (ie, clients, newcomers, youth, seniors, corporate volunteers etc)
  • Works with Director and Manager of Engagement to ensure volunteer support when needed, works with Director/Social Marketer on marketing and Learning Kitchen engagement strategy
  • Promotes and assists with Kitchen Rentals, Kitchen Bookings and Boardroom Rentals
  • Maintains inventory of kitchen smallwares & equipment, submits recommendations for replacement and purchasing
  • Maintains an inventory of basic foodstuffs, paper goods and cleaning supplies, follows procurement requisition procedures to items required for classes are onsite in advance

Other responsibilities and duties:

  • Supports and participates in fundraising activities and cross departmental activities. From time to time, may be required to represent Greener Village at offsite events. Assists in identifying and preparing funding applications for kitchen programming.
  • Acts as an Ambassador for Greener Village during onsite and offsite events, actively builds relationships across a variety of stakeholders including but not limited to community partners, donors, stakeholders, volunteers, service clubs, etc.
  • Other duties as required

Trade certification is preferred, but a combination of education/experience will be considered. Must have or be willing to obtain Food Safety Certification, First Aid/CPR, and Criminal Record Check. Bilingualism is an asset but not essential.

Salary: $46,000 – $60,000 commensurate with experience.
